Photography and Visual Storytelling

True, I am a native writer, but along with my pen and my notepad, I use a camera. The results are clear.

If you know me as “The Camera Lady,” that woman wandering Georgetown, Texas events and taking a ton of pictures, then this page is for you. I keep my growing portfolio at studio.songsofmann.com.

Question: “Ginger, are you opening a studio?”
Answer: Not exactly. But I am open for business.

This is not a typical portrait studio. It’s professional, personal photojournalism. With on-location, natural light shoots and years of practice with narrative non-fiction, your story may be captured in both pictures and 1,000 words. Specialities include events, sports, street, personal portraiture, and short biographies. Still photos only.

The Backstory

In truth, the addition of my camera is not all that recent. I’ve studied photography since birth, taught by my father. Once, while learning to code websites, I used my knowledge of film photography to make a living. I took a Canon AE-1 on-location to shoot resort properties, real estate, and landscapes for small and start-up businesses. That was decades ago, and I enjoyed every image I shot. But recently, I’ve taken some opportunities to extend my old knowledge to the present, and I’ve made the journey from film to digital. The delivery speed of digital vs. film continues to astound me.

I’ve been fortunate. I’ve worked with some great coaches and I’ve been given many opportunities to practice digital photography as new language. But why go this route today? Because I have a goal: as a musician, I’ve noticed that musicians often fade into the ends of their lives invisibly. Some of them leave behind archives of compositions, treasure troves of art which can get lost in time. With my lens, my established skills in writing prose, and my history as a writer and arranger of music, I hope I can help. I wish to give this world a lasting memory of one musician whose story was never told. Maybe after that, I can help one more, and after that? Perhaps this can go on for a while.

Your Story

Meanwhile, everyone’s life is full of stories. The art of photojournalism can help you tell them. I’m always working on improving. I’m ramping up quickly, but in the meantime maybe we can help each other.

“This is my story, this is my song.”

-F. Jane Crosby

If one picture is worth 1,000 words, then just watch how a few words will amplify a set of clear pictures. Is there a moment you would like me to capture? Do you have an athlete, a graduate, or a performer in your family? Maybe I can help you tell one good story. Let’s connect.
